The roots of this problem are in #2551 in my opinion.
This issue is a side effect of squad inability to catch with leader's movement.
Still a problem in 1.04beta build 59025.

Might be improved in 60129, but without a repro I cannot verify. Please, add repro or otherwise verify the fix.

- [60129] Fixed: AI subordinates now move faster (use less cover) to catch up when leader is way ahead of them.
- [60102] Fixed: AI subordinates should now respect formation more when moving in combat.
- [60101] Fixed: Group leader was often running far ahead alone in combat.
- [60092] Fixed: AI leader did not wait for a player to cover him when moving in combat.

Great news, behaviour was already quite better in 60141, looking forward to 60220.
Thx Suma.
