Description

It would be great if shadow would effect the particle effects, as an additional option, too, like in Armed Assault.

It looks strange if the particle effects in shady places are as bright as in full light. In Armed Assault, fire effects are effected by these shadows too, which it looks weird.

I don't really understand the screenshot..

The Armed Assault screen shot is shadows being cast on smoke (the particle effect).

Basically particle effects such as smoke ingame should represent the real-life effect of light reflecting off gazillions of particles that is smoke, weather that's direct light or indirect/filtered light (shadows), both picture illustrate this well.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this in ArmA2 as well, at least using very high shadows. Will check again.

@ 76 Well why don't make all the physical "things" based on the actual understanding of how everything works, simulate every atom.

No shadows at particle effects, i checked too.
Smoke.jpg - is probably an ACE1 screen. Shadow in the smoke, which is clearing after the tank explosion. The smoke effect is ACE, but the shadow rendering is vanilla.
smoke1.jpg is the shadow of the trees and the bush, on the smoke of a smoke grenade.

Seems like the smoke shadow was renderd just the same as every other shadow. As i know the smoke particles are just textures aligned facing at the player. So basically, maybe, if i'm not completely wrong, it would be relatively easy to enable shadow on these textures (or how ever it works). Sometimes it looked a little strange in Armed Assault, when the shadow was coming at it from a steep angle, but mostely it delivers a nice volumetric feeling. It just makes the smoke more connected to the environement. Now particle effcts glow a little in the shadow.
I just tried out what happens at night, if you light smoke with a searchlight. The night solution would be a great thing too. Just every particle which is more in dark then in light, switches to night brightness. Allso works with muzzle flashes, fire etc.

Don't missunderstand me plz, i love the game ;)
